City Place I was chilling at my place and decided to go up to the parking garage and watch the sunset. Looking at the skyscrapers of Downtown & Uptown Dallas, against the backdrop of reds blues and yellows, is by far, the most beautiful thing to see on this planet. And that’s not me being bias. Dallas has the best city skyline in the world. But as I watched the sunset I looked over around my neighborhood and see this red giant jut out of, seemingly, nothing. To give you an idea of my neighborhood; it is the densest part of the city, consisting of 4-7 story apartment buildings/condos/restaurants and art galleries. So to stand and gaze upon rows of box like structures, then come to a 42 story skyscraper, makes you wonder and scratch your head. City Place Tower was originally part of a multi complex development, it was the only tower, out of two twin towers, constructed. Tower II never was erected due to the Savings & Loan crisis of the 1980’s. The two towers were to be connected by a sky bridge, and a handful of smaller office buildings were to be constructed around the base of the two towers. If constructed, my neighborhood would’ve been more commercial and less residential. Which in someways I wish it were more like that. As I’ve gotten older, i feel a connection to the building. In that the building a loner in its own world, but at the same time standing strong and sustaining itself in its own environment. Tonight reminded me why I love my city. Helping realize that I am a part of this city in more ways than I’ll ever know.
